On 18 March 2025, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, president of Somalia, was attacked by al-Shabaab in a roadside bombing assassination attempt near Villa Somalia. He was on his way to Aden Adde International Airport in Mogadishu. Mohamud survived the attack.
